A kilowatt-hour (kWh) is the amount of electrical energy consumed when 1,000 watts of power run for one hour, and is the standard unit on which utility companies bill customers.

Your utility bill measures electricity in kilowatt-hours, not watts. A kilowatt-hour (kWh) represents the energy used when 1,000 watts of electrical power operate for exactly one hour.
